Join us for a weekend of Jewish joy, outdoor adventure, and meaningful connection at the first ever Adamah on Campus Midwest Camping Trip, September 25–27.
We invite students from colleges and universities across the Midwest to spend Shabbat on Lake Michigan, camp in tents, explore the natural beauty of the dunes, share delicious meals around the campfire, and connect with fellow students who love the outdoors.
Whether you’re an experienced camper or trying it for the first time, this weekend is an opportunity to unplug, build community, and experience Shabbat in a meaningful and inspiring way. Together, we’ll celebrate the intersection of Jewish life, environmental stewardship, and adventure in the great outdoors.
FAQs
The Adamah on Campus Midwest Camping Trip will take place in the beautiful Warren Dunes area of southwest Michigan, along the shores of Lake Michigan. Known for its towering sand dunes, sandy beaches, wooded trails, and stunning sunsets, Warren Dunes offers some of the best outdoor recreation in the Midwest.
Our campsite is located just minutes from the lake and provides easy access to hiking trails, dune climbs, swimming, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty of the region.
To help offset the cost of traveling to and from the Adamah on Campus Midwest Camping Trip, participants will receive a travel reimbursement based on the distance they travel.
Travel reimbursement amounts:
- Over 300 miles: $100 reimbursement
- 200–300 miles: $70 reimbursement
- 100–200 miles: $35 reimbursement
Alongside her role as Adamah on Campus Midwest Coordinator, Shoshana Bittker has over 10 years of experience leading camping, backpacking, canoeing, and outdoor adventure trips. A lifelong camper and outdoor educator, she is passionate about helping people build confidence, community, and a deeper connection to the natural world. Shoshana is certified as a Wilderness First Responder (WFR), Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid provider, and is EpiPen certified. She is excited to bring her love of the outdoors, Jewish community, and environmental education to the Adamah on Campus Midwest Camping Trip.
| We will provide tents, tarps, sleeping pads, stoves, and other cooking necessities. Participants should bring a personal sleeping bag, backpack, weather appropriate clothing, toiletries, any necessary medications, and any other personal items needed to stay comfortable throughout the weekend. In the spirit of camping, we encourage packing simply and bring only what you need. A detailed packing list will be shared with all participants before the trip. |
Activities will include hiking, time on the beach at Lake Michigan, campfire gatherings, outdoor skills, Shabbat rituals, nature based Jewish learning, games, and plenty of time to relax and connect with other students.
All meals and snacks provided will be kosher and vegetarian. We will accommodate dietary restrictions and food allergies. Please indicate any dietary needs on your registration form. We will be cooking on camping stoves and open fire. Get excited for S’mores and classic camping meals!
Yes, the campground has restroom facilities with modern plumbing and access to potable water.

This trip will be held in the spirit of Shabbat and will include opportunities to celebrate together through candle lighting, Shabbat meals, community building, and Havdalah. However, the weekend will not be Shomer Shabbat friendly, as camping requires certain activities such as cooking, cleaning, driving, and other logistical and safety necessities. We welcome students with a wide range of Jewish backgrounds and practices and aim to create a meaningful, inclusive, and respectful Shabbat experience for all participants.
This experience will be a drug and alcohol-free environment, including marijuana, cigarettes and electric nicotine devices. Drugs and Alcohol are prohibited on this trip.
