The Ramaz seventh grade had an immersive program in collaboration with Adamah, the biggest Jewish organization in the United States focusing on environmental issues. The students learned about the importance the Torah places on looking after the environment. For example, the Torah teaches that we are even forbidden from cutting down a fruit tree. Their talk on the intersection between Judaism and environmentalism culminated in a hands-on chesed activity. The students went out to the streets of NYC to put what they learned into action: cleaning, pruning and adding mulch to the trees on East 85th Street. Now, every time they come to school they will be reminded of these important values and the positive impact their work has had on the community!
