Meeting Topics & Descriptions:
May 8: Israel, a Green Beacon to the World Guest Speaker: Jay Shofet, Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel
In this lecture, Jay Shofet will explore how a small country like Israel, situated at the cradle of civilization, can serve as a global model for nature conservation. He will present the challenges we face in the Anthropocene era, as we grapple with the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss. Shofet will reveal the uniqueness of the Israeli environment and the importance of protecting it, as it serves as a land bridge between three continents, a global biodiversity hotspot, and the world’s most significant bird migration route. All this will be discussed while addressing the complexity of preserving nature in a country with the second-highest population density among OECD nations.
