Retreat Jewish

Elevating the Power and Potential of Jewish Retreating

Retreat Jewish is a ground-breaking initiative dedicated to dramatically enhancing Jewish retreat operations at multiple Jewish retreat centers. Retreat Jewish offers a blueprint for building a framework of support and collaboration to raise the playing field of Jewish retreating in America.

A strategy to establish long-term sustainability across the field of Jewish retreating is underway. It begins with an investment in Jewish retreat centers – the hubs that spark experiential moments of change and offer unique engagement opportunities for all ages and denominations.

Why provide this initiative? Jewish retreats offer a quintessential in-person setting for experiential education that deepens Jewish learning and practice, builds community, and fulfills mission. In other words, there is no substitute for a Jewish retreat.

Jewish retreat centers have been struggling to understand the best ways to run and grow their programs, reach paying organizations and individuals, and recover from the disastrous suspension of programming necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Historically there has also been a tremendous dearth in the sharing of useful information and thinking between Jewish retreat centers.

Retreat Jewish Signature Cohort Program

Each cohort brings operators from Jewish retreat centers together for peer-to-peer support, Jewish hospitality training & education, and matching grants to invest in marketing, sales, & business development.

Senior staff from eight Jewish retreat centers participate in five 90-minute Zoom sessions covering such topics as marketing, operations, immersive retreats, and lifecycle events. A chavruta model is used to pair participants for learning and discussion between their group sessions. Each participating center is also given the opportunity to apply for a $10,000 matching grant to enhance marketing and leverage new funding.

The Retreat Jewish Cohort experience culminates with an in-person retreat to continue to gain operational excellence and build community with other Jewish retreat center participants.
