Come connect with the natural world and cultivate community while paddling through the Proud Lake Recreation Area.
This program is geared towards families with young children, and our content and pacing will reflect that. However, anyone is welcome to join! We’ll make sure each canoe has enough people.
Our paddle will be on the Huron River, which is slow and shallow and can be paddled both upstream and downstream without difficulty. The location is recommended for families and new paddlers. Each canoe is suitable for 2 adults or 1 adult and 1 child who can paddle, with an additional 100lbs of coolers or kids in the middle. If you are bringing young children who cannot paddle, you will need two adults to paddle your canoe. Life vests are required for all and will be included in your registration.
Our program will include gathering together for an opening that will highlight Jewish environmental values and a review of canoe safety, paddling down the river, enjoying some open swim and lunch time, and then a return paddle back to where we started.
Please bring any sunscreen, water, and lunch/snacks you may need. There are bathrooms and on-site parking.

Children under 2: free, but registration required
Please note: The Recreation Passport is required for all Michigan state parks, trails, historic sites, boat launches, harbors, and more. The Heavner Canoe launch is located inside of the Proud Lake State Recreation Area, and requires a Michigan Recreation Passport for entry. In the case of inclement weather, we will do our best to schedule a make-up date as soon as possible. You can choose to transfer your fee to the make-up date or receive a full refund.
