This series empowers participants with stewardship & sustainability knowledge through guided learning and immersive exploration.
Join Pearlstone’s passionate crew of fun-loving and talented educators, as well as community partners, for hands-on programs that promote stewardship, sustainability, interconnectedness and responsibility to ourselves, each other, and earth.
We welcome all cultural backgrounds, faith traditions, and ages (8+) into guided learning focusing on skills and topics that promote personal and community skill building and knowledge. Anchored in loving community, Pearlstone programs thoughtfully integrate joyful nature connection with Jewish wisdom.
You can register for all classes or for one at a time.
Here are the topics we’ve covering this session of workshops
Participants joined the Pearlstone team and a representative from Ecotone in a walk through the recently restored, 1300 foot span of stream — one year after the initiation of the construction! We literally walked in the water, getting our feet wet, while learning about the restored streambed and water ecology!
Use the vegetables, fruits, and herbs grown at Pearlstone to prepare delicious treats.
Harvest and prepare delicious treats using the herbs, fruits, and vegetables grown on Pearlstone’s farmland! Our partner from the Baltimore American Indian Center joins us to share their knowledge on harvesting from the land.
This course is FREE! Greenbelt Biota will be leading a nature walk and will help us categorize flora and fauna on Pearlstone’s campus. Great for an expert and great for a complete beginner with lots to learn.
Learn the cycle of growing and harvesting wheat to make your own pita. Plow, plant, reap, bundle, thresh, sort, grind, knead, and bake with Motzi Bread Bakery!
Explore the woods to scope out usable plants and herbs for edible or medicinal purposes. We will forage for edible roots and sassafras to boil tea over a campfire!
In partnership, the Pearlstone Stewardship and Programming Teams are inviting the community to learn sustainable building techniques. Learn how to make adobe bricks the same way the Israelites did in Egypt to build the pyramids and their new homes in Israel. You can use the same techniques to add a patio, garden trim or wall to your own home.
Join us for our THRIVE Winter Hike to “spark joy” into our cold months with a brisk hike, campfire circle, and spicebush tea.
Learn about starting a garden, whether on a patio, in your yard, or in the community
Do you like mushrooms? Come help Pearlstone replenish our production mushroom logs and bring home a couple logs for yourself. In this 2-hour class learn the basics of how to buy, inoculate and grow your own mushrooms for personal consumption using the sawdust spore and log method. This is only the basics, but you get a log or two to take home with you and you will be competent enough to grow your own. We will be making Oyster, Shitake and Lion’s Mane mushroom logs. This is a class that is much more of the doing than of the listening. If you have a hammer drill, cordless drill, or impact driver please bring it with a 12mm or 12.5mm or 1/2inch bit.
