Join Adamah Detroit and Michigan Interfaith Power and Light for an engaging 3-part virtual book club on Active Hope by Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone. Our conversations will be guided by Lynne Iser and will touch on themes of uncertainty, resilience and optimism. Lynne Iser serves as President of Elders Action Network and also teaches deep ecology, conscious aging, and community building.
Adamah Detroit is excited to offer this book club to support the landscape of faith-based environmental action taking place in SE Michigan. This book club will empower our community to share about lessons learned and challenges faced through taking faith-based climate action.
All ages are welcome, and complementary books will be shipped to the first 25 individuals to register. All sessions will be on Zoom, 7:30-9pm EST
A word from our Facilitator: We hope to provide our audience with a deeper understanding of how we are impacted by the critical issues we are facing, and provide the experiential tools that will help us move beyond our despair, fear, anger, etc. We will discover our personal allies, explore the ideas of collective power, and build our resilience so that we can each do something to heal our world. This work and book acknowledge the anxiety that many of us feel about the environmental and social justice issues that we are all facing. The three sessions will provide a theoretical understanding of Joanna Macy’s “Work That Reconnects” along with experiential exercises that make the work deeply spiritual and heart-based — and so much more powerful, and easily remembered and accessed after reading and studying this book together!
