A Successful Bike to the Beach in San Francisco
Hazon hosted the first ever Bay Area Bike to the Beach this past Sunday, January 29th. There were groups of riders that rode from four starting locations around the Bay Area and converged at Ocean Beach.
It was a beautiful day with great urban cycling and culminated with a vegetarian, organic lunch and celebration at the ocean.

Why I Ride: Julia Schlesinger, Cross-USA Rider
By Julia Schlesinger, 2012 Cross-USA Rider
After a choking year at college, I find myself a freshman-in-recovery in Amherst, Massachusetts. The smells of not-home filter through me: my mom is not cooking cinnamon toast, I no longer breathe in the honey-roasted “Nuts for Nuts” street stands of New York City, my original home. Mornings now are a furious charge towards the double (so very suburban) doors of my apartment, and onto my Beloved – a snazzy, now-snowtired Bianchi, covered in Yiddish stickers, rust, and life experience. Chronically late, I load up my mule with love and desperation. Hastily shoved into my orange Camelbak: my uniform for my cafe job, a book whose weight will make my back scream in an hour, and lights for the return trip home through the uncushioned dark of the Pioneer Valley.

Ride with Hazon in the 5 Boro Bike Tour
5 Boro Bike Tour is May 6th; Enter Lotter by February 7th
There is only one week left to enter the lottery for the 5 Boro Bike Tour. While Hazon does not have an official team, we encourage all Hazon friends to enter the lottery for a chance to participate in the largest organized bike ride in America. As in past years, Hazon will organize a meeting point at Columbus Circle for those who want to ride together (and start ahead of the masses!). The Ride itself is on May 6th, but lottery entry closes on February 7th.

Hazon Hosts Wilderness First Aid Class
BJE (Bureau of Jewish Education)
639 14th Ave., San Francisco
Wilderness first aid is the specific discipline of First Aid which relates to care in remote areas, where emergency medical services will be difficult to obtain or will take a long time to arrive.
Hazon is partnering with Foster Calm to offer a WFA class with lots of hands-on skills practice. The emphasis is on making good decisions by staying calm and safe, doing a good patient assessment, and having good communication and leadership. We will spend a little time framing this course in Jewish texts and teachings.
