Plan your California Getaway to the California Ride

Winter got you down?

The California Ride and Retreat includes two days of cycling through the stunning scenery of Sonoma County and over the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco.  It’s a great way to see a different part of the country!

Resources for a Fun, Meaningful Tu B’Shvat

Tu B’Shvat begins Sundown on February 7, 2012

[Image: Bicycle Menorah]Tu B’Shvat (Hebrew: ט״ו בשבט) is a minor Jewish holiday in the Hebrew month of Shvat, usually sometime in late January or early February, that marks the “New Year of the Trees” (Hebrew: ראש  ×”שנה   לאילנות, Rosh HaShanah La’Ilanot‎). Tu B’Shvat is one of four “New Years” mentioned in the Mishnah. Customs include planting trees and eating dried fruits and nuts, especially figs, dates, raisins, carob, and almonds. In Israel, the flowering of the almond tree, which grows wild around the country, coincides with Tu B’shvat. Learn more about Tu B’Shvat.

Time on the Hava and Adam Eco-Educational Farm

Eco-Israel, a 5-month residential learning program of Hava & Adam Eco-Educational Farm, offers young people ages 18-30 the opportunity to immerse themselves in sustainable living. During the program, students live closer to nature, spend a lot of time outside and learn about plants, soil, compost and so much more. They live as part of a community and learn how the principles and patterns that operate in nature also apply to social situations.

Tu B’shvat Adult Seder at Urban Adamah

The Jewish mystics loved this holiday, the day in midwinter when the sap begins to rise in the trees. On this day, the bodily sefirot (basically, the Jewish chakras — or for chemistry fans, the periodic table of spiritual elements) would open, allowing Divine light to energize and renew our connection to our bodies and the earth. How exactly did this happen?

It was all about a mysterious combination of fruit, wine and chocolate. OK, they didn’t have chocolate. But we will.
